Past Project Highlights
Tunnel Ridge & Boulder Dash trails, Rochester, VT
Seven mile long section of Velomont trail connecting to Rochester village.
1800’ from the valley floor to the height of the ridge
Over 100 machine made berms
“A trail built by L&D Trailworks is of the highest quality when it comes to flow and trail sustainability.”
-Angus McCusker, Executive Director Velomont Trail Collective
Stowe Trails Partnership, Stowe, VT
Rebuilding several trails in the Cady Hill network following catastrophic wind storms, including a complete rebuild of Florence
Multiple spring tune ups to alleviate water issues and add features to specific trails
Assisting STP in updating main trail corridors to be adaptive friendly
Re building Haulapalooza trail to mitigate water issues and improve overall flow
“L&D has completed several projects for us over the years. From annual spring tuneups to refurbishments and reroutes they have always provides speedy, yet thorough work at a great value. The reroute on Bear's Trail in Cady Hill Forest jumps to the forefront in terms of showing their creativity in taking an old trail in need of work, and creating something entirely new, yet still providing the characteristics of the rest of the trails” - Grady Vigneau, Trail Manager STP
“L&D’s professionalism, hard work, and great finished product is what keeps us coming back with more projects”
- Grady Vigneau, Trail Manager STP
Sherburne Trails - Killington, VT
6.5 miles of machine built trails on USFS land in Killington Vermont on the Gifford Woods side of the Sherburne network including a 1.5 mile directional flow trail descending 600 vertical feet
“L&D is Fantastic! Their work is second to none. We couldn’t be happier.”
-Stephen Nisimblat, Co-Chair Town of Killington Parks and Recreation
Moosalamoo & Oak Ridge Trails - Ripton & Goshen, VT
Working alongside United States Forest Service, Addison County Bike Club and Moosalamoo Association to expand trail offerings to mountain bikers.
Taking inventory of heritage hiking trails previously closed to mountain biking and identifying the opportunities and constraints to stakeholders.
Utilizing a hybrid approach of modern mechanized trail building and traditional hand building techniques to preserve sustainable sections of the preexisting trail while realigning and constructing alternative routes for excessively steep or non-rideable sections.
Removing rotting bridges and replacing them with rock hardened crossings where possible to reduce long term maintenance costs.
“The Addison County Bike Club has partnered with Lepesqueur & Daughters on multiple projects reworking older trails and developing new trail systems in the Moosalamoo National Recreation Area. It is an absolute joy to work with Tom on planning and executing projects. He is super thoughtful about this work and he takes the time to work through all of the aspects of trail building that most of us don’t consider – from addressing a variety of user experiences to thinking about trail longevity and reduction of future maintenance. We always look forward to collaborating with Tom and his crew.”
-Ashar Nelson, Addison County Bike Club
“We are improving the sustainability and accessibility of our trail network while reducing long-term maintenance cost thanks to the trail design and construction efforts of L&D”
-Comments from public land managers after project implementation
Rochester Valley Trails - Rochester, VT
Design and Construction of trail network in Rochester VT to expand upon the existing network and broaden the array of trail types.
Trails include; Sap Boiler, Old Gents, Marsh Brook Connector, Creamery Run, VCR, Blaine’s Hill, Robert’s Brook, Smead Hill, Tunnel Ridge, Boulder Dash, Randolph Gap, Cassidy’s Chase & Rube’s Run. Nearly 17 miles of new trail.
“L&D Trailworks has been a joy to work with over the years on multiple projects. We’ve been fortunate to have help from L&D Trailworks on a variety of projects including pump tracks, a mini skills park, a complete trail network with stacked loops, hybrid trails, machine-built trails, directional downhill only trails with jumps as well as long point to point trails that provide key connections for Velomont Trail connectivity. The attention to detail on layout, design and construction ultimately saves us a lot of funds and volunteer time when it comes to ongoing trail maintenance needs.” - Angus McCusker, E.D. Ridgeline Outdoor Collective
Perry Hill & Little River State Park - Waterbury, VT
Disneyland in Perry Hill - Working alongside W.A.T.A and Vermont Department of Forests, Parks, and Recreation to rebuild this underutilized trail in the Perry Hill network with the goal of spreading riders out more inside the network. We left the best bits of the original trail intact and rerouted the uphill segments to create a more consistent (downhill) feel. We used a hybrid approach of both machine and hand building, incorporating natural ledge where we could and using a small excavator to build corners and realign a few sections.
High bridge and Hill Farmer, Little River State Park - Once again working with W.A.T.A and Vermont Department of Forests, Parks, and Recreation this time to provide maintenance and reconstruction efforts to these highly ridden trails. Work included a top to bottom rebuild using mini excavators with special attention given to areas where there had been significant erosion. Several sections were realigned and reconstructed while old sections were closed out and scarified.
